A program task list is an instructional tool to measure the technical competency of a student. During your enrollment in the Cosmetology program, you will be taught and assessed on the following tasks:

Welcome to the beauty industry! Cosmetology is a profession, which requires stylists to supply their own tools when employed by salons. The Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology requires that all students enrolled in a Cosmetology program maintain individual kits. These kits include all the necessary tools for the students to succeed in our program.

Students MUST have the required cosmetology kits prior to the first day of school to maintain enrollment in Cosmetology program.

Kits must be purchased through our school no later than August 15, 2024.

Safety is not an option! Safety is YOUR responsibility! Students are required to follow all rules and regulations. In addition to following all NMTCC’s listed and or posted safety and MSDS Policies, refer to the specific equipment manufacturer’s user, operator, or consumer guides and or shop manuals for complete safety details when using any equipment. Students are not permitted to use any equipment or tools unless they have received and have documented that they have received the appropriate safety instruction. NMTCC requires students to wear approved safety glasses in the lab area at all times. If your child already wears prescription glasses, another style of safety glasses is available to wear over his/her glasses. Long hair must be tied back and earrings, necklaces, or jewelry of any type are not permitted to be worn in the lab area at any time. A belt or suspenders must be worn to keep pant legs off the floor, for both safety and for our students to look professional.

  At 900 hours a student may apply for early testing. Students must still complete1250 hours to receive cosmetology license.

Cooperative Education allows students to be employed during the school day while gaining meaningful instruction in a technical area, applying classroom knowledge to real-world experiences and developing life-long career skills. Students may be allowed to go to work for a number of days determined by their teacher and the cooperative education coordinator.

Students have the opportunity to enroll in the Honors level course of their CTE program. The Honors course is for 12th-grade students who have demonstrated a high level of interest and achievement in their program and who aspire to an advanced level of learning. Students in the Honors course will be exposed to individualized industry-related advanced work, rigorous study of CTE subject matter with embedded academic content, and practical application of knowledge and skills to work-based situations. Students must meet the required prerequisites and submit a completed Academic Teacher Recommendation form during their 11th-grade year to be considered for the Honors level course.

• 100% of POS Tasks 
• GPA of >90% in CTE program 
• GPA of >80% in academic courses
• Recommendation Form completed by an academic teacher 
• Specific Industry Requirements: 1000 hours completed

Social Security Number Information for Cosmetology students provided by the State Board of Cosmetology.

A state law effective January 1997 required that applicants provide their social security numbers on all applications for licenses and licensure renewals. Section 301.1(a)(2) of Act 124 of 1996 amends the Domestic Relations Code. All government agencies are required under the Act to require the social security number of an individual on any application for a professional or occupational license.  The Act also requires government agencies, including the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, to provide a licensee’s name, address, and social security number to the Department of Public Welfare.  The amendments were authorized under the Federal Welfare Reform Act known as the Federal Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. The Department of Public Welfare is the state agency responsible for enforcing child support orders.

Social Security numbers are also required for students in cosmetology schools. This number is used to verify an individual’s identity for those instances when an individual contacts the board with a request for a Certification of School Hours earned. This application is a board form and requires a social security number. If the student is a legal alien who has not yet had the opportunity to obtain a social security number, the federal INS number may be substituted until a social security number is obtained.
