Welcome
MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR – Dr. Beth Ann Haas
As we approach the holiday season, I want to express my gratitude to our students, staff, sending districts’ teams, Joint Operating Committee members and families for their ongoing support and dedication. This month provides us with the opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the year so far and to look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead in 2025.
Our students continue to thrive in their programs, demonstrating the skills and creativity that make our school so special. Whether they are preparing for competitions, engaging in service projects, or advancing their technical expertise, their hard work and passion inspire us all.
Thank you for being a part of our community, and I wish everyone a joyful and restful holiday season!
Leadership Conference
North Montco students demonstrated their talent and dedication at the SkillsUSA Leadership Conference, a two-day event filled with opportunities for personal and professional growth. Our students worked hard and brought home several impressive achievements!
Highlights from the conference include:
- Winning the School Cheer Contest.
- Earning First Place for the Pin Design, which sets the theme for next year’s conference.
- Securing Third Place for the Door Sign Design.
- Finley Conroy, a student in the Advertising Design program, receiving the prestigious SkillsUSA Outstanding Student Award.

Featured Program
Biomedical Technology
Biomedical research offers an exciting career path where scientists and doctors work to understand biological processes and develop treatments for diseases. Our Biomedical Technology program introduces students to this fascinating field, combining hands-on laboratory research skills with in-depth theoretical knowledge.
In this one-year program, students engage with cutting-edge equipment such as fluorescent microscopes, biosafety hoods, PCR machines, and 3D printers. They tackle real-world problems relevant to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic research sectors. The skills gained in this course provide a strong foundation for future studies and careers in biomedical science.
One of the program’s unique benefits is the dual-enrollment opportunity through our partnership with County Community College. Students earn college credits in Biotechnology (BIT120) and Intro to Anatomy and Physiology (BIO130)—a significant advantage for those planning to pursue higher education in STEM fields.
Admission is competitive, with a selection process that includes a personal interview, a tour of the Biomedical Technology lab (highly recommended), a recommendation letter from a science teacher, and a completed application with a transcript. Decisions are communicated in the spring for this prestigious junior/senior program.
This program is not just an introduction—it’s a jumpstart into the world of biomedical science, providing students with the tools and knowledge to excel in college and beyond.

Featured Program
Culinary Arts
This month’s featured program at North Montco is our Culinary Arts program, a comprehensive course that blends hands-on experience with guided theoretical learning to prepare students for careers in the culinary and restaurant industry. Students not only learn essential cooking skills but also participate in the full production cycle of a working restaurant, allowing them to put their knowledge to the test by preparing and serving meals to the public at The Restaurant at North Montco.
Through practical application, students develop a deep understanding of food safety, kitchen sanitation, and various cooking techniques. The course also emphasizes the importance of menu development, inventory management, basic supervisory roles, and communication skills. Dining room service skills are a key focus, with students gaining firsthand experience in customer service as they interact directly with retail guests. To ensure compliance with industry standards, students must adhere to uniform requirements, wearing professional chef’s attire and front-of-house uniforms.
Our Culinary Arts program is accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation and includes offering students valuable industry certifications such as Serve-Safe, SP2 workplace/food safety training, and OSHA-compliant training. These credentials, along with rigorous training, equip students to step directly into the workforce or pursue further education in culinary arts.
Join Us for Breakfast and Lunch at The Restaurant and Bakery at North Montco
Our student-run restaurant and bakery are now open to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays for breakfast and lunch when school is in session. This initiative provides students in the Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts programs the opportunity to hone their skills in a real-world environment, welcoming community members to enjoy delicious, thoughtfully prepared meals and baked goods. Your visit supports our students as they practice and refine the skills they’re developing in this program.

Welcome
North Montco Technical Career Center (NMTCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Beth Ann Haas as the Administrative Director, Dr. Stephen Monastra as the Assistant Director, and Ms. Lynthia Scott as the Principal effective July 1, 2024.
North Montco Technical Career Center is confident that the new leadership team will continue to drive the school’s mission and vision forward.

Featured Program
Computer Integrated Machining
This month we are highlighting the Computer Integrated Machining (CIM) Program. This program equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in various manufacturing careers, all while focusing on real-world applications. Whether a student’s goal is immediate employment after high school or further education, the machining program offers a solid foundation for future success.
The CIM Program prepares students to enter the manufacturing industry as entry-level machinists. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on the machining of component parts, helping students develop the skills needed to operate machinery with precision and efficiency. Students learn to read blueprints and machine parts to exact specifications using advanced equipment such as milling machines, metal lathes, surface grinders, saws, and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines.
In addition, students can earn industry-recognized certifications through NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills), enhancing their employability. During their junior or senior year, students have the opportunity to participate in Cooperative Education, where they gain invaluable on-the-job training with local industry partners.
The CIM Program’s close ties to local businesses offer students various opportunities. For example, later this month, machining students will visit Bracalente Manufacturing Group, a global manufacturer, to witness advanced manufacturing processes firsthand. These connections not only offer practical experience but also pave the way for students to seamlessly transition into the workforce. In fact, a large number of students secure employment before graduation, thanks to the program’s emphasis on industry partnerships and real-world skill development
For those students interested in continuing their education, the program offers a solid head start. They graduate with a skillset that not only positions them for a living wage in the workforce but also makes them competitive candidates for post-secondary education in related fields. From the Class of 2024, 75% secured employment in the machining field, while the remaining 25% opted to pursue further education.
The Machining Program provides students with a unique blend of technical skills and real-world experience, preparing them for meaningful careers or further education. Learn more about the Computer Integrated Machining Program here.

A Look Back - We Remember 9/11
Near the entrance to NMTCC stands a powerful memorial dedicated to one of America’s darkest days. For over two decades, this memorial has taught generations of students about the events of September 11, 2001, how the world changed, and how our school community has chosen to honor that day.
On the first anniversary of 9/11, our teachers asked students for input on how to commemorate the tragedy. Their response led to the creation of the 9/11 Memorial Garden, designed by a retired horticulture teacher. The garden was designed with meaningful features.
Two dawn redwood trees stand at the back of the garden, representing the Twin Towers. These trees, related to the giant Sequoias of California, turn yellow-orange in the fall, echoing the towers’ loss. In spring, their new green growth symbolizes renewal and hope. These trees were selected to represent the tower as we recall that California was the destination of the airliners used to destroy the towers. The garden was designed as a five-sided shape, symbolizing the Pentagon. The surrounding mulch bed contains Pennsylvania wildflowers, representing the fourth flight lost near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Inside the garden stands a 4 foot-tall stainless steel sculpture of the pre-9/11 New York City skyline, created in 2003 by a welding student as his senior project. The two Twin Towers, crafted from mild steel, are intentionally designed to rust over time, a reminder of the passage of time and the resilience of memory.
Our 9/11 Memorial Garden remains a place of reflection and learning, ensuring that the legacy of those lost continues to inspire students and our community.
