Description:  This course combines classroom instruction and hands-on shop practice in residential air conditioning systems and basic heat pumps.  Students will learn the fundamentals of system operation, electrical circuitry, controls, diagnostics, and troubleshooting techniques used throughout the HVAC industry.  Upon completion, students will be able to troubleshoot and service residential air-conditioning systems and heat-pump applications.

As part of the course, students will receive instruction in refrigerant handling, recovery, and recycling, as well as environmental regulations.  The curriculum prepares students to take the ESCO EPA 608 Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification Examination, an industry-recognized credential required for purchasing and handling refrigerants and related equipment.  Students will receive both theoretical and hands-on training prior to testing.  Certification examination results will be issued directly by the ESCO Institute.
