General Information For Continuing Education (Adult Students)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Anyone age 17 or older is eligible to attend classes, regardless of where you live.

We provide e-mail confirmation of class. If you do not have e-mail or have not received a phone call; report to class on the first scheduled night.

IDENTIFICATION

 Our school provides an effective way to help keep unwanted visitors from entering our building. All individuals entering the building must present a registrant's Driver's License or other state issued ID. The ID will be scanned and screened for registered sex offenders in all 50 states, effective July 1, 2014 for all Adult Student registrants and visitors attending the North Montco Technical Career Center.

PARKING

Student parking is available in the front parking lot of the building. Parking in handicapped spaces without proper placecard or registration is prohibited. No parking in tow zones.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Safety instructions are a vital part of the total program of instruction in each course. Students must obey all shop safety rules. Students will be required to wear safety goggles in the shops where use of safety goggles is essential. Other safety equipment may be necessary depending on the individual program requirements.

Footwear must be safe for the shop and the occupation in which you are working. No sneakers, soft or open-toed shoes are permitted in lab areas. Loose clothing, jewelry, and hair long enough to constitute a safety hazard will not be allowed in the labs.

TOBACCO POLICY

Smoking, chewing tobacco or any other form of tobacco use is not permitted in the school building, on the school grounds (this includes the parking lots), or while participating in any activity sponsored by the school.

The Joint Operating Committee recognizes that the use of tobacco by students presents a health and safety hazard, which can have serious consequences for both users and non-users.

For the purpose of this policy, tobacco shall be defined as a lighted or unlighted cigarette, cigar or pipe; other lighted or unlighted smoking product and smokeless tobacco in any form.

1st Offense - Written warning from administrator plus a $25 criminal complaint payable to North Montco TCC

2nd Offense - Written reprimand plus a $50 criminal complaint payable to North Montco TCC

3rd Offense - Exclusion from the NMTCC plus a $50 criminal complaint payable to North Montco TCC. If adult students are excluded from classes due to smoking violations, regardless of when offenses occur, there will be no tuition refund.

BOOKS, MATERIAL FEES, SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Fees for textbooks, safety equipment, and/or other materials may be needed. The instructor will announce these charges.

COUNSELING AND PLACEMENT SERVICES

The Continuing Education office offers students job-seeking skills so that they will have a better opportunity to be employed in a promising career for the future. Please see the Continuing Education office for information about this service.

REFUND POLICY

All withdrawal requests must be made in writing. 100% refund for course cancelled or if student withdraws before registration deadline. $50.00 non-refundable registration fee is included in each course with exception of the following programs. $100.00 non-refundable fee is included in the Commercial Driving Training Program. $2,000 non-refundable fee is included in the Automation Technician Mechatronics - AMIST 1 Program.  Absolutely no refunds granted after registration deadline.

INSURANCE

North Montco TCC does not carry insurance coverage for student accident and injury. It is highly recommended that all students attending North Montco TCC have insurance protection in case of accident or injury.

FOOD/DRINK POLICY

Food and drinks are not permitted in the classrooms.

GRADING/ATTENDANCE

Students will receive a certificate and grade report upon required attendance and completion of the course.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

Snow and emergency closings will be announced on WNPV (1440 AM) by school name, and on KYW (1060 AM) -the school number is 1124. In the event of questions regarding closings, information will be recorded on the Continuing Education Department voice mail at 215-855-3931. Please refer to the school calendar for holiday and special event date closings.

VISITORS

No visitors are allowed in class at any time unless approved by administration. Children of continuing education students are not permitted inside the building or classrooms of NMTCC while classes are in session.

POLICIES FOR VETERANS RECEIVING EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE ALLOWANCE:

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Veterans enrolled will be interrupted/terminated for unsatisfactory attendance when accumulated absences, tardies and class cuts exceed 25% of class contact hours for any program. As per VA attendance policy, the interruption will be reported to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) within 30 days of the veteran's last date of attendance.

As per VA policy, a veteran may be re-enrolled for benefits after 30 days from the date of interruption/termination of VA benefist only when the cause of unsatisfactory attendance has been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.

TRANSFER CREDITS

An individual's past education and professional experience will be evaluated. If appropriate, credit for experience may be given and the length of the program will be decreased accordingly.

GRADING SYSTEM

Depending on the course, grading system is as follows: P or F (Pass or Fail), A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79

The student must have achieved a percentage of 70% or higher for graduation requirements.

MAKE UP WORK

Make-up work is not permitted for the purpose of receiving Veterans Affairs training allowances, as required by Section CFR 21.4254.

PRO RATA REFUND POLICY (NON-ACCREDITED PROGRAMS)

In the event a veteran fails to enter, withdraws or is discontinued from the program at any time prior to completion, the amount charged to the veteran does not exceed the approximate pro rata portion of the total charges for tuitionm fees and other charges that the length of the completed portion of the program bears to its total length, as required by Section 34 CFR 21.4255.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

When a student is not performin at a 70% grade average by his/her third class session, or first test, the instructor will give the student the option of additional assistance or the opportunity to continue in another class to the level where the student is functioning.

A wide range of courses to upgrade skills, develop new skills, or pursue special interests are offered throughout the year.
