H1N1 Flu

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is continually monitoring the spread of flu, the severity of the illness it is causing, and whether the virus is changing. The CDC is also providing periodic updates of these assessments. North Montco Technical Career Center is following the recommendations of the CDC to educate staff and students and control the spread of this virus in our school. NMTCC is working with guidelines from county, state and federal officials in decisions related to the H1N1 flu. p>

NMTCC is being proactive in dealing with the H1N1 virus by using the following measures to prevent the spread of this illness in our school:.

• Reinforcing our procedures for cleaning and disinfecting the school

• Educating staff and students about proper hand washing techniques, and respiratory etiquette

• Continuing to provide hand sanitizers in classrooms without sinks

• Communicating recommendations and important information using our website and Alert-Now.

To ensure that you receive messages about the school when they are relayed via Alert-Now, parents are reminded to provide your child’s most up to date contact information including telephone numbers and email addresses. Please send this information to Mrs. Suzette McHugh at smchugh@nmtcc.org.

Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through the coughing or sneezing of infected people. It is important to take everyday actions to stay healthy including:
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw the tissue in the trash after each use. Wash hands promptly after coughing or sneezing. If a tissue is not immediately available, coughing or sneezing into one’s arm or sleeve (not into one’s hand) is recommended.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

• Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

New Resource from U.S. Department of Education

The U.S. Department of Education has launched an exciting, innovative resource - www.college.gov.

This website was designed by students for students and features first-person accounts of students who overcame challenges to going to college such as peer pressure, lack of family support, and financial barriers.

It provides relevant, comprehensive information about why to go, how to go, and how to pay for college or other postsecondary education programs.

ISO 9001:2008 Certification

In May 2010, NMTCC participated in an annual audit required to maintain International Standards Organization (ISO) certification. The ISO system expects that we carefully document our policies and procedures. It is our responsibility and mission to do what we’ve said and documented. By achieving this certification, we show that our school utilizes a system of continuous quality improvement to serve its customers. As part of this process, we ask for feedback from the community, parents, students and employees. We distributed surveys to these people for feedback on how we are operating. Thank you to all of those who completed this survey and shared with us your valuable comments and suggestions. The management team will use the survey results to set our yearly goals based on the feedback received.

Any stakeholder can recommend improvement to our system. Parents and the community may make a suggestion by emailing northmontco@nmtcc.org or by sending the information to us. Students are able to complete a continuous improvement form located in the administrative offices.
